The Segeberg Scoop - October 2008

This morning, as I realized that we’re already into November, it occurred to me that I hadn’t yet sent out the October Scoop. Since I was so late getting out September’s, I feel like I just sent one. But, we’ve had a lot happen during October, so I certainly have much to write about. I’m going to break from the norm this month, though, and cover our happenings topically rather than by person.

We’ll start with our biggest news…In the middle of the month, Ryan headed up to Seattle for his on-site interviews with Microsoft and Amazon. They both went well, and we were pleased when an offer resulted from the trip. We felt this was in answer to our prayers that the right thing for our family would work out. Thankfully, that offer was with Microsoft, which we felt good about from the very beginning. After some deliberations, Ryan accepted the offer a little over a week ago—with a start date of Jan. 12. We are heading up to Seattle in about 2 weeks for a house-hunting trip, and will make the move up as soon as Ryan finishes finals in mid-December. It’s certainly an exciting time of life for us!

October also marked my 30th birthday. The actual day was pretty low-key, since we had a wonderful celebration with family the day before and went out to dinner the Friday after. Thank you to all who sent birthday wishes! I also went to “Super Saturday” that next weekend and spent the entire morning making crafts and then went shopping afterward. It was a wonderful week-long birthday celebration!

The weekend after my birthday, Kallie was invited on a little trip to the family cabin with Grandma and Grandpa. She loved all the personal attention she got from grandparents and her aunt! Whitney, on the other hand, had no idea what to do with all her one-on-one time with mom and dad. (Ryan and I reveled in the ease of having only one child again!) Whitney seemed like a fish out of water without having big sister there to instruct her on the finer points of play time. When Kallie came home, they were both glad to see each other again.

And, of course, we can’t forget Halloween festivities at the end of the month. This year, the girls dressed up as princesses. We had a ward Halloween party mid-week, where the girls enjoyed the fish pond, cake walk, and donut-from-a-string games. Friday, we went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for dinner and then trick-or-treating. This year, when we had about 1/2 of a block left, Kallie decided she was too tired to continue and we needed to go back to Grandma’s house. You know when a child is choosing sleep over more candy that she must be really tired!

Well, that’s it for October! I hope November’s Scoop will bring news of a found home, a hearty Thanksgiving, and a few (dozen) boxes packed. We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, & Whitney
