The Segeberg Scoop - September 2008
Here we are, an entire week into October and I’m finally getting to the September Scoop! We had a great month.
This month, Whitney developed a healthy obsession with princesses. There is nothing princess-related that Whitney does not notice. She has also started playing with dolls in our Little People doll house. It’s a fun experience to have a daughter who is so thoroughly girly! Kallie wasn’t ever into these kinds of things, so I’m enjoying this part of Whitney’s personality. Keeping in line with this girly-ness, Whitney has continued her fascination with babies. We attend story time at the library once a week, and I usually end up playing “goalie”—which means I’m keeping Whitney from loving all the babies in the area. She is such an easy-going, caring little person. In spite of that, she still knows just how to make her sister scream.
Kallie had a WONDERFUL September! I knew it was time to get her involved in something a little more active and social. Since Kallie was such a little fish this summer, I decided against dance lessons for now and signed her up for swimming instead. Because she was so ready to jump right in, (literally!), she started in the Pre-Level 2 class. She had a blast going to her lessons twice a week! She can’t wait for the next session to start in a few days. Kallie has also been LOVING story time at the library! They have a special room with a child-sized green door where the kids go, sans parents, for a 30-minute story time, (which can be seen on closet circuit TV). Kallie has really enjoyed the feeling of independence and responsibility this gives her. Whether she’s the first or last kid to enter, she always stands by the door so she can close it after everyone else has gone in. I think it’s really funny that she has taken that “job” on herself! In other Kallie news, she has (thankfully) returned to the world of napping. I discovered if I put her on my bed and lay down with her for a few minutes, she’ll go to sleep for about an hour in the afternoon. This generally makes her a much more pleasant Kallie, so we’re all glad she’s decided it’s still OK to nap.
Ryan has had an extremely eventful month! To begin with, he ran the Top of Utah Marathon in September. My sister, Mirinda, stayed with the girls for the night so Ryan and I could head up to Logan for the race. It was such a fun experience! It would take too much space to write all the details, but if you’re interested, they’re on my blog (sympatichna.blogspot.com). Ryan did an AWESOME job, cutting 35 minutes off his previous marathon time, and coming in at 4 hours 25 min.! He seemed much better prepared physically for this marathon, compared to his first two, and has had a great recovery. He’s now preparing for a triathlon next summer. This month also officially marked the beginning of Ryan’s job hunt. BYU’s Tech Career Fair was at the end of September and Ryan handed out 20 resumes and garnered quite a few interviews from it. Interview requests from other companies are still trickling in, too. Ryan will be heading up to Seattle next week for an on-site interview with both Microsoft and Amazon. This time of job-hunting is exciting and stressful all at the same time! We are just looking forward to seeing where we end up in the next few months!
As for me, I have also been keeping busy. I started taking a Step Kardio Fusion class twice a week at BYU. It’s REALLY early in the morning, but only twice a week—and I’ve been having a great time. Being with a live instructor makes me push myself a little harder! I can certainly see a difference in my muscles since I started taking this class. I also got a new counselor in my Presidency this month. She hadn’t even been called for an entire week and put together the entire Primary Program script! It took such a load off my mind! Everything with Primary has finally calmed down, so I’m feeling a lot less stressed with my calling. I have been enjoying the cooler weather lately, too. It’s nice to take the girls for a walk, (pushing 100 lbs. of stroller/kids uphill is quite the workout!), with the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing. I’m looking forward to the rest of October, since Whitney and I will start Mom n’ Tot swimming lessons when Kallie starts her next round.
Well, that’s it for us this month! Hope you have a great October full of cooler weather and cute little goblins!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
