The Segeberg Scoop - August 2008
Here we are, yet again, at the end of the month. As I was thinking about what to write in our Scoop, I started thinking about what we actually did this month…and I couldn’t come up with very much. But, it seems that August passed in the blink of an eye, so something must have happened!
Whitney is showing more and more of her cute little personality each day. She is so proud of the words she can say now and seems to be working on pronunciation. There are still many words she says that I can’t decipher quite yet—but she still manages to get her point across. Whitney surprised us a couple of times this month by telling us she needed to use the potty—and then actually using it! Although she’s asked to use it a few times since then, she hasn’t been as successful as those first 2 times. Lately, Whitney has been completely into dressing up. She puts on 1-2 fairy skirts, a crown, a pair of socks, and/or a scarf. Then, she spins around in the family room and tells us she’s dancing. We can’t help but smile at each other! (Or to ourselves if no one else is around…)
Kallie has recently decided that naps are overrated, so she has stopped taking them almost cold turkey. It seemed like one week, she napped for about 2 hours every day—and the next week, she was waking her sister up every day because she wasn’t sleeping anymore. Instead of a nap, now, she gets to have “quiet time” and read books for a while in a quiet room. Kallie has also been working on learning her letter sounds this month. I didn’t realize she knew as many as she did until I started quizzing her and she actually knew the answers! She has also turned into the queen of projects. I turn her loose with a few craft supplies, and she just takes off! The other day, I taught her to use scissors and since then, a whole new world of projects has been opened to her. We now enjoy a beautiful layer of confetti on our floors on a regular basis. Hmm…maybe this next month, we’ll have to teach her how to use the vacuum. ;)
Ryan went on the annual Segeberg Father’s and Son’s outing this month. The boys went 4-wheeling on the Piute trail and camped in Rick’s trailer for several days. Ryan had a great time! It was great to spend time with his family while they were in town, too. Other than that, Ryan has been plugging away on his thesis research. Everything is still on schedule. He will start his last required class next week—and when that’s done, we’ll be ready to go! Now, if he can just get some great contacts at the BYU Career Fair a month from now…
I have been keeping pretty busy with my calling this month. Being in a BYU ward means that we’re constantly in transition—which can make the ins and outs of callings quite interesting. It will be nice when things calm down in the next few weeks as the semester begins. I’m also working on putting together our ward’s Primary program. Never having done this before, it seems a bit challenging. We’ve finally nailed down what we want in terms of the music, so the rest shouldn’t be too difficult, right? This month, I’ve also enjoyed reading quite a few books. I’ve found a couple of authors that I really like and have spent a lot of late nights reading when I should have gone to bed!
Well—that’s our August. We’re looking forward to the cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and football games the coming season brings. (GO BYU!) Until September…
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, & Whitney
