The Segeberg Scoop - June 2008

It’s hard to believe that July is almost here. I still think we’re hitting the end of May! At least the weather has finally warmed up a bit here in Utah . It’s hard to experience those winter-like temperatures when you just want to get out and enjoy the season. June has certainly been full of enjoyment for us!

Whitney continues to be the sweetest little thing…with a few exceptions. A couple of weeks ago, I asked her to get a diaper, to which she crumpled up her cute little face, threw her arms down by her side, and said, “Ah, no!” Guess that little independent personality is starting to push its way to the forefront. It’s nice to know there’s a little spicy in with the sweet Whitney is known for. This month was a huge milestone for us as well since Whitney started attending Nursery! Everyone was telling me how lucky I was, but really, Ryan is the one benefiting most from the change, as he has been caring for her during the last 2 hours of church since I was put into Primary. Saturday, while Ryan was doing the dishes, he turned around to find Whitney standing on the kitchen table. Apparently her new hobby is climbing. Anything she’s tall enough to get onto MUST be conquered. It’s fun seeing what Whitney is discovering each day!

June has just been one big party for Kallie. She filled her days playing with her friends, coloring and/or painting, going to storytime at the library, dancing with Mom and Whitney, going for lots of walks in the stroller, and playing with her cousins. At the beginning of the month, we signed Kallie up for the local summer reading program, so we’ve been enjoying reading together for at least 20 minutes each day. Kallie also loves to “read” to Whitney in addition to her reading time with Mommy. She also loves to help around the house and is always requesting to be involved in more household chores. I guess that should be a sign to me that she’s ready to take on a couple of regular chores, huh? Kallie’s thrilled about going on an airplane in a couple of days to go see Nana & Papa—the Nana & Papa part being much more exciting for her than the airplane ride itself.

Last month, I mentioned Ryan had decided on a thesis topic. THIS month, he’s finished a draft of his thesis proposal and plans to propose before the committee within a few days after we return from Seattle . (If not then, it will definitely happen before the end of the month.) Ryan finished his Maya class a couple of weeks ago, (Maya is the program the animation studios use to make movies like Cars, Shrek, etc.), and if you’d like to see his final project, you can check out my blog at sympatichna.blogspot.com. This means he only has one class and his thesis remaining. It’s looking like a December graduation may be in the plans for us this year after all!

I have been keeping busy with my calling and my family. What else do moms do? J This past Saturday, we had our first Quarterly Primary Activity with our new Presidency. We held a “Get to know President Monson” fair, complete with a basketball toss, fish pond, and obstacle course. It was a big undertaking for us—but turned out really well and the kids had fun. Later that day, a bunch of us girls kidnapped our good friend, Brittany, who is moving before we get back from Seattle . We blindfolded her and took her out for a Girls’ Night Out at Comedy Sportz and then out for frozen custard afterward. It was a fun break from the norm for me—and I have to admit, I felt a little like I did when I was a crazy(ish) young college student!

Now, we’re just focusing on getting packed to head out early Wednesday morning for Seattle . We’re all really looking forward to the trip and can’t wait to spend time with everyone up there! It should make for a fun Scoop at the end of July. J Hope you all have a wonderful month!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
