The Segeberg Scoop - May 2008

Here we are at the end of another busy month--and we survived! May has certainly been a fun month for us with many changes.

We’ll begin with Kallie. Early in the month, we celebrated Kallie’s 3rd birthday. She enjoyed a “Little Einsteins” birthday party with several of her friends from the ward. Mommy made a cake that looked like Rocket and the kids got to go on “musical missions” during the party. It couldn’t have been a better day for Kallie! Kallie has also been enjoying the warmer weather. She can’t get enough of playing outside! And, she’s been experiencing all sorts of creature encounters. Just a few days ago, Kallie saw a deer bounding through our neighborhood--and then the next day, she saw a HUGE earthworm in Grandma’s backyard. She’s having a great time learning about this world around her! Other than that, Kallie is just being her darling little self. We’re continuing to work on the sounds letters make, and Kallie has been known to say, “T…T…T…NAP!” At least we’ve got somewhere to start from, right? :)

Whitney has really blossomed this past month. We were surprised a few weeks ago, when out of nowhere, Whitney said, “Nay-nay!” (Which means “Marné”, Whitney’s cousin’s name.) I didn’t even know how to pronounce her name! I had to laugh when I put her in the car yesterday and she pointed to the DVD screen on the ceiling and said, “Ahnt dat!” Apparently, she wanted to watch a movie in the car. As you can tell, Whitney is experimenting with LOTS of words and surprises us almost daily with some new word or phrase. Whitney has also been more adamant about her need for shoes lately. She is rarely seen anywhere without a shoe or a purse in her hand. She is certainly ALL GIRL!

Ryan has finally settled on what appears to be a thesis topic! I’m not sure of the specifics, but I’m sure Ryan would love to fill you in if you’re interested. :) In talking with his professor recently, Ryan discovered it’s quite possible he will be able to propose his thesis soon after we return from Seattle in July. We’re excited to see how that all goes. This month, Ryan also managed to surprise me with a get-away for our 4th anniversary. Although I knew we were going somewhere, I had no idea where! We went to Zermatt resort in Midway, UT. (Thank you to my parents for allowing us their Zermatt Club benefits!) After we checked out of the hotel on Friday, Ryan and I went off-road driving for a few hours. I got to show him Cascade Springs, (one of my favorite places!), and then we explored the mountains above Midway for a while. It was a wonderfully relaxing event for us!

As for me, I had a great time at Women’s Conference! I’ve posted a few of my notes/thoughts about it on my blog, (sympatichna.blogspot.com). I really enjoyed hanging out with my girlfriends for a couple of days! Overall, it was a very uplifting and strengthening experience. I certainly needed that calming influence at the beginning of the month, as I was sustained as our ward’s Primary President a couple of weeks later on Mother’s Day. At first, I felt completely overwhelmed, even though we have a fairly small Primary. I haven’t been in Primary since I was a Merrie Miss! (They don’t even call them Merrie Miss anymore.) But, in the few short weeks since I was set apart, I have definitely experienced an increase in divine confidence and am enjoying the opportunity of serving in this calling. I now know that Primary is the most fun place to be on Sunday!

Well—that’s our month in a nutshell. I hope you have all had a wonderful, sunny May! Until June…

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
