The Segeberg Scoop - March 2008
These Scoops seem to happen later and later the longer I send them! This month I have no good excuse—just the typical busy-ness of a young family. Here’s what we were up to during the month of March (and a small part of April):
Our biggest piece of news is that Whitney finally decided, at 16 months, she was ready to walk! Had I sent out the Scoop any sooner, we would have missed this exciting information since it just happened today. She started out by taking a few steps from the couch to me…and by the end of the evening, she walked from the family room to the bathroom. (Living in Wymount, it’s not THAT far, but far enough to prove that she knows what she’s doing.) Whitney loves playing with her sister—and now that she can walk, I’m sure she’ll realize it’s a lot easier to keep up with Kallie. Whitney also got to enjoy her first experience playing in the sandbox. Since she was still crawling, I had to make sure I put her in clothes I don’t want to keep—because she gets SO dirty crawling through sand, grass, and on the sidewalk. By the time these Utah spring snow storms let up and the warm weather reappears, Whitney should be a pro at walking! (I hope, anyway…)
Kallie has really been enjoying preschool. She begs to go every day, even though it’s only on Tuesday and Thursday. She is developing into quite the little social butterfly and loves to go play with her friends or at the “ Slide Park ,” (a large sandbox area with a slide behind our apartment). Kallie has also become quite a good little helper—thanks to the bean jar we started in February. She’ll do something just a little helpful and then request that beans be put in her jar. It’s pretty funny what she thinks she can do for beans sometimes! (Most of the time, however, we concede to her “I think I earned some beans!” requests.) Kallie is looking forward to her birthday in May. She is obsessed with all things birthday and keeps telling us that she’ll get “Hello Kitty” makeup when she’s older. (I don’t think she fully understands how much older she’ll have to be before she has permission to have that!) Today, when Whitney took her steps and I was so excited, Kallie ran in from the other room and started lavishing Whitney with hugs, kisses, and phrases like, “Good job, Whitney!” and “I’m so proud of you!” She loved being in the middle of the Whitney-walking action all evening.
Ryan has been doing his usual…plugging away at school and training for another marathon. He’ll be finishing classes up next week and will then work on his thesis for the entire summer. He’s still working on a thesis topic, but we’re hoping that comes together sooner than later. As far as running goes, Ryan will participate in the “Top of Utah” marathon this September. In preparation, he bought some new running shoes a few weeks ago and goes running every morning, (including Saturdays!). This past weekend, we had the opportunity to attend Ryan’s mission reunion. After last year’s attendance level, he wasn’t sure if he would see anyone he knew. It turned out that there were a lot more familiar faces this year. In fact, it was almost like a BYU 114th ward reunion—(the ward we lived in before this one)—since many missionaries from Ryan’s mission ended up living in that ward at the same time. It was great to see so many people we knew!
I have also been doing my usual—with a few extras thrown in. After Kallie complained of her ear hurting on Sunday, I took her to the Dr. on Monday. Sure enough, she had infections in both ears. If you think this sounds familiar, you’re right—it’s the same thing that happened back in February—but this time, it came with the barfies as well. So, I spent the majority of my day on Monday cleaning up after my poor, sick Kallie. After a couple of doses of her stronger antibiotic, you’d never know how sick she was yesterday! During the month of March, I cleaned out, cleaned up, and reorganized our office and bedroom. It’s amazing how much extra space you can create in an already-jam-packed place when you take the time to reorganize a little! Part of this cleaning out included finishing up a couple of projects that have been waiting for me since before Whitney was born. It was fun to get my creative juices flowing just enough to get those projects done. I still have a few more projects that I hope to accomplish before the end of the month.
In addition to all of our individual fun, Ryan’s parents came to visit during the last week of March/first week of April. We had a great time having them here! Kallie latched on to Papa from the moment she saw him—and drained him and Nana of all of their pocket change. Whitney also loved playing with them, although it took her a few days to warm up. It was great to have them here and see how much their little granddaughters enjoy their Nana and Papa!
Well, that’s it for our March Scoop. Stay tuned for the next edition…which hopefully will come out before the end of May.
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
