The Segeberg Scoop - November 2007
I think I must have blinked at some point during November because it’s suddenly December! What a wonderful and busy month we had.
We’ll start with Whitney…One reason the Scoop is late for November is that Whitney was REALLY sick this past week. A couple in the ward asked me to watch their 3-year old son and somehow forgot to mention he had been sick for the previous week. About a week later, Whitney came down with rotavirus and has lost some weight as a result. She hasn’t thrown up since Saturday, though, so she’s definitely on the mend now. I just hate when my kids are sick—especially when they’re too young to let me know what’s going on. Otherwise, Whitney has had a great month. She’s started cruising the furniture and seems like she’s getting closer to walking, although she hasn’t been brave enough to hold onto our fingers and walk away from the furniture yet. I think Whitney has started to say a few words in the past couple of weeks: dada and nah-nah, which mean daddy and night-night. One of the best milestones, (at least in my opinion), is that Whitney has started signing! She signs daddy, milk, and eat, although sometimes it takes a little prompting. Whitney has also learned to wave bye-bye and clap, which she does when she hears clapping or when someone says, “Yay!”
Kallie continues to be a great big sister. One of her big things lately is being a “great helper”—which often just means she wants permission to get into whatever you’re doing at the moment. She does love to help, though, and does a great job when given the opportunity. Early in the month, Kallie surprised us one morning by starting to potty train herself. She did really well for 2 days and then almost completely fizzled out. So, although she is still practicing her potty abilities, I’m waiting until after the holidays are over to really buckle down with it. Speaking of the holidays, since Christmas music started playing on the local radio stations a few weeks ago, Kallie has learned who Josh Groban is. She is quick to point out when he’s singing on the radio and often asks for more after his songs finish. I don’t know how in the world she picked up on his music so fast—but she seems to really enjoy it.
With only a little less than 2 weeks to go until classes are over, and not nearly enough time to accomplish all of the projects and other required end-of-semester tasks, Ryan’s running about a million miles a minute. He told me the other day that he’s interested in so many aspects of computer science, (and enjoying all of his classes), so it’s hard to choose just one to focus on for a thesis. He is currently working on a project that could possibly turn into a Master’s thesis, so we’re interested to see how it all comes together. I’m definitely impressed with Ryan, as even with the time commitments for school, his professor’s lab, and working as a TA, he still makes time for his family. Kallie and Whitney both just love their dad and enjoy the time that he spends with them.
I’m feeling incredibly busy with the holiday season upon us. I got the majority of our Christmas shopping done during November, but it still seems like there are too many things to get done each day. Several weeks ago, I helped Kallie make cards for a world-wide kids’ card swap. We get to send cards to Australia , Singapore , and Dominican Republic , along with a few states in the U.S. , and we will, in turn, receive kid-made cards from places around the world. It’s been a fun project and I look forward to seeing where our cards come from. I also participated in our ward’s Super Saturday activity a few weeks ago and have a few projects to finish up from that event. I’m hoping to get them done before I have to start getting things ready to head up to Seattle for Christmas.
Well, that’s our November in a nutshell. We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration and wish you a calm and fabulous December!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
