The Segeberg Scoop - October 2007
Now that it’s November, I’m finally getting to our latest Scoop. October was a great month!
To begin with, Ryan ran the St. George marathon the first weekend of October. He did great and beat his previous marathon time by about 35 minutes. The normally warm temperatures of St. George went on vacation that weekend, leaving nice cooler weather for the big day--which I think helped make it a better experience than the SLC Marathon last year. Ryan’s recovery also went really well and he’s been keeping up with his running ever since. It’s been a great release from the stress of the semester. Ryan’s classes are certainly keeping him busy--but he does a really great job balancing school and his family. He is really enjoying his computer graphics class and is looking into working on BYU’s computer animated short film next Fall.
Whitney has tackled a couple of milestones this month. A few weeks ago, she realized there was life above carpet level. She started by crawling up on step stools and toy bins, (she loved to lie on top of them once she “conquered” them), and quickly transitioned to pulling up to standing at the couch and in her bed. She’s now brave enough to lean on things with her tummy and use both hands to play while she’s standing. Not too much longer and Whitney will be running around with Kallie. I loved when Kallie reached the walking stage--and I’m really looking forward to Whitney reaching it as well.
Kallie has been our resident entertainment recently. We are amazed with some of the hilarious things that she comes up with. She certainly keeps us on our toes…and watching what we say. You never know what will pop out of a 2-year old’s mouth! Kallie had a GREAT time trick-or-treating last night. She and Whitney were dust bunnies this year and Ryan and I were janitors. While she loved getting the candy, she realized she had to deal with some “scary” things to get it. Mostly just creepy lights and music—but that’s very intimidating for a young kid! After particularly scary doors, Kallie would announce, on the way to the next house, “I’m not scared!” Kallie has also really been enjoying a book we borrowed from the library called, “ Alice the Fairy,” about a little girl who pretends to be a fairy. She can read that book over and over without tiring of it. She loves it so much that, at her request, we made a magical fairy wand and are going to make wings so she can be just like Alice . (If you have young girls in your family, I highly recommend the book, by the way. It’s really cute! We’re definitely going to add that one to our personal library.)
I have just been busy being a mom. I’ve been spending a lot of time making projects with Kallie, cleaning my house, and doing other mom things. How boring does that sound? It’s actually been really fun and enjoyable for me. We celebrated my 29th birthday a couple of Saturdays ago. It was a great low-key day and Ryan took me out to dinner that night. It was so nice to spend a day doing whatever I wanted to do, instead of worrying about what HAD to be done.
Just as a side note…Ryan and I are no longer using our cell phones. If you would like to call us, you can reach us at our home number.
Well—that’s it for this month. We’re definitely looking forward to the holidays…I love this time of year! (Not to mention the end of the semester isn’t TOO far away now.) :) Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
