The Segeberg Scoop - September 2007
September is almost over…which is incredibly hard to believe. I looked at the calendar this morning and realized that it’s time for another Scoop. It really doesn’t seem possible that almost an entire month has passed since I wrote the last one!
I’ll start with Ryan this month, since he’s had the most going on. School has kept him incredibly busy. In addition to 3 graduate classes and working in his professor’s research lab, Ryan took on a Teaching Assistant position, also with his professor. He says he’s enjoying the challenge of learning new things and organizing his time. Both are talents that Ryan seems to possess naturally, thank goodness! Otherwise, I think this semester would be a little overwhelming. Once the marathon is over, Ryan will probably have a little more time, at least on Saturdays, to continue working toward his academic goals.
Whitney had a great month. She had her 9 month appointment a few weeks ago and is doing great! She’s back up right around the 50th percentile in everything--and I’m so glad that she’s still growing so well. We’ve been starting to do a little sign language with her and so far, she has figured out how to clap. Any time we say, “Yay!,” Whitney’s little hands get going. It’s quite entertaining to watch her new trick and how proud she is of herself. As for crawling, she’s still working on the getting up on all fours idea. She likes to rock back and forth on her hands and knees, but when it comes time to get going, she drops to the ground and army crawls. It’s kind of funny!
Kallie’s vocabulary is increasing every day. Mostly, she’s just starting to understand that there are words between all of those nouns she knows. It’s fun to listen to her make more complete and precise sentences. My favorite is when I ask her if she needs help and she says, “No, I’m fine!” It cracks me up! Since Ryan started going to school again, Kallie has been somewhat fascinated with all things BYU. She doesn’t actually say the letters individually, but is more efficient and says, “Bye-YOU!” She enjoys taking little trips to daddy’s school and seeing all there is to see there. Kallie continues to be a wonderful helper to mommy and daddy and Whitney.
This month seems like it has been extremely busy for me. A couple of weeks ago, I was able to be with a girl I taught on my mission as she went through the temple and was sealed to her parents as she prepared for her own wedding. That next week, my former companion and I took our 4 girls down to Richfield for a pre-wedding barbecue and then went to her reception, (with our husbands in tow), in Salt Lake the next evening. It was such a great experience to be able to participate in such a wonderful event. Although my Russian is extremely rusty, it was great to talk these amazing people I met on my mission. This past week, I have been busy preparing a lesson and visual aids for a Family Home Evening lesson swap I’ve joined with a few girls in my ward. I have really enjoyed being able to use my creative talents as I prepared my lesson.
Well—that’s our news for the month. I hope you are all enjoying a beautiful beginning of fall wherever you are.
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
