The Segeberg Scoop - August 2007

Is it just me or is time passing a lot faster these days? August seemed to pass in the blink of an eye! It’s been a great month for us.

Whitney has passed a couple of milestones this month, most within the past week. Earlier in the month, I realized that she’s cutting her FOUR top front teeth. She has been really good through it all, though. You can only tell a difference right before the tooth cuts through the gum. For some reason, it’s harder for her to fall asleep and she doesn’t eat as much when a tooth is at that stage. Speaking of eating, Whitney started eating finger foods this past weekend. She loves chasing them around her tray and trying to get them in her mouth. She has also been practicing her coordination by army crawling. She finally got it down a week ago and has been moving faster and faster every day. In fact, she’s already started pushing up on hands and knees. It’s amazing to see how much she has learned in the past 8 1/2 months.

It has also been amazing to watch Kallie grow and learn this month. At the beginning of the month, Ryan and I were exasperated with bedtime, as Kallie was getting out of her bed at least 10 times an hour every night. We tried a Supernanny technique, changed her bedtime to a little later, and started leaving her door open. Somehow, between those three things, we found something that worked and Kallie has been very good at staying in her bed for the past couple of weeks. Kallie also went through a very trying tantrum phase at the beginning of the month. Within less than 24 hours, she managed to rip her frenulum, (the little flap of skin that connects your upper lip to your upper gum), and go to the emergency room for “Nurse Maid Elbow” (kind of an elbow dislocation, but not severe)—all from throwing tantrums! She hasn’t thrown as many since then… Kallie has also been earning stars on a little “Chore Chart” every day and gets a sticker when she has all 4 stars. When she gets a week of stickers, she gets a special prize. And, right now, almost every thought is about her chart and the prize. It’s a great motivator for her so far.

Ryan’s last day of work was last Friday. He’ll actually have a half-day, and we’re looking forward to enjoying that time together before school starts. As of Tuesday, Ryan has become, once again, a BYU student. It will certainly take some getting used to, (probably for all of us), since he’s going to have homework to do in the evenings again. We are definitely excited about finally moving into this stage of life. Ryan was also recently called as the 2nd Counselor in the Sunday School. He’s still figuring out exactly what that means, but so far he has taught Sunday School and been to quite a few meetings. Ryan will be running the marathon in about 4 weeks—and we’re looking forward to staying with my grandma in St. George that weekend. He also successfully sold our little Accord last week. I was a bit sad to see that great little car go, but it was time for us to make the move to 1 car. Thankfully, the timing was perfect!

I have just been plugging along doing my normal things every day. I finally got our curtains hung and a few more pictures on the wall. I’m still deciding where I want the other pictures to go and I hope to have those up within the next week or so. I finally got to teach my first lesson in Relief Society a couple Sundays ago and I think it went well. I’m in the middle of preparing my next lesson for this Sunday. I feel like I’m keeping pretty busy participating in ward activities and making new friends here. I have also been playing around with blog design and digital scrapbooking during the past few weeks. It has been fun for me to use my creativity in that way and figure out how to make things look the way I want them to.

Well—that’s it for the month. I hope you’re all doing great!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
