The Segeberg Scoop - July 2007

I cannot believe how the month of July has flown past. Since time flies when you’re having fun, I’m sure it was the tons of fun we had that made it pass much too quickly!

We started out the month in Seattle, visiting Ryan’s family. His parents celebrated their 40th Anniversary and we went up for the celebration. We had a GREAT time in Seattle! It was so fun to see his family and spend time with them. Kallie loved playing with her cousins, throwing rocks on the beach, and riding on the ferry. Whitney loved smiling at all of her aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom she hadn’t met yet. Ryan and I were just sad that it was over much too soon. We weren’t quite ready to come home when the time came. It actually took me a couple of days to WANT to be home! (For all of the fun details, you can read my blog at sympatichna.blogspot.com.)

Since we drove up and back, we were anticipating an arduous, 2-day journey filled with screaming children. It actually was nothing like what we imagined! (Thank goodness!) The girls were very good both days in the car there and back. On the way there, Kallie and Whitney each had a crying spell, but they had them on different days and it didn’t happen on the way home. Something that we did notice this time is that it’s much more difficult to make the rounds and see everyone when there are kids in the equation. We’re glad that we’ll be back up there in December so we’ll get a chance to see everyone again.

Now for the normal family news…Last month, I wrote that Whitney had lost almost a full pound. This month, I’m happy to report that she has gained almost 3 ½ lbs. in the past 6 weeks! Whitney is starting to get the hang of sitting up. She can’t sit for long periods of time without some help, but she doesn’t just slump over anymore. She also loves to watch Kallie jump, spin, and dance. It’s not a rare sound in our home to hear Kallie and Whitney playing and laughing together. I hope that their friendship will only get stronger over the years!

Within a couple weeks of returning home from Seattle, Kallie, (aided by mom and dad), left her binky under her pillow for the Binky Fairy. When she came back into her room later that evening, she found a Night Time Curious George under her pillow in place of the binky. Although Curious George is Kallie’s favorite show, she wasn’t too impressed with him at first and would have gladly traded back for her binky. But, given a little time and assistance from mom, she warmed up to George—and over the past few days, has gotten used to not having her binky anymore. She has done really well with the adjustment—just like most other required changes in her life. Kallie has been having fun playing the “Matching Game” with mommy every day and loves to point out “letters of the alphabet” and try to count.

Ryan has been quite busy with work lately, as his team is preparing to release their product in a few weeks. He has also been continuing to train for the St. George Marathon, in spite of having some issues with his feet. Thanks to a great podiatrist, he’s got it all figured out and has much happier feet these days! In about another month, Ryan will finish his employment with Symantec and start school full-time! It’s hard to believe that our long anticipated grad school phase of life is about to begin!

After about a month of major mood swings and extreme exhaustion, I decided that I was tired of not feeling like myself and went to the Dr. I found out that my adrenal glands are out of whack, which can happen from having kids close together. The Dr. started me on several vitamin supplements and gave me a prescription for sleep, with an emphasis on sleeping in. I’m sure that such a prescription is every mom’s dream! It has been a bit of a challenge because I often feel like my day is half-over by the time I get up in the morning—but there is a huge difference in how I feel on the days I sleep in compared to the days I don’t. Ryan has been extremely accommodating and has adjusted his morning schedule so that I am able to sleep in. The Dr. said it should take about 3-6 months to get back on track. Other than that, I spoke in church the Sunday after we returned home from Seattle. I feel like it went well. I also received a calling as a Relief Society teacher. I am very excited about my calling…in fact, that’s probably the calling I would have chosen for myself right now! I’m already enjoying thinking about and preparing my lessons!

Well—this is a rather long Scoop this month. I hope life is going well for all of you and would love to hear from you! Also, if you’re in the area, we would love to see you! Have a great August!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
