The Segeberg Scoop - June 2007

Well, another great month has passed in the Segeberg home. June was definitely a month of changes for us!

To begin with, we moved into our Wymount apartment. It’s only been a week and 2 days since we completed the move and we’re already loving it! We have a ground floor apartment with three bedrooms. Although it’s only slightly larger than our condo, the way that the rooms are divided up allow us more effective space--of which we are using every single square inch. We feel that we have a perfect location, within a short walk to church and the laundry facilities. We’re almost finished unpacking boxes, as we have had to purchase shelves and other organizational items before we could put some of the things away. We hoped to be completely finished with the unpacking by Wednesday night, but it looks like it’s going to have to wait until we get back from our trip to Washington.

OK--now on to our other family news…Whitney had her 6 month check-up at the beginning of June. I was a bit surprised to discover that she had lost almost a full pound during the 2 months between her 4 and 6 month check-ups. The Dr. instructed me to start her on formula to give her the calories she needed--which I did that very night. Within a few days, Whitney had noticeably gained weight and seems to get a little heavier every day. I’m really grateful for medical knowledge and the options that we have now to keep our kids healthy. Within the past week, Whitney has started rolling/scooting all over the place. It seems we’re not in any danger of her crawling any time soon, but she is enjoying her new ability to explore and move around more. Whitney is a little bundle of contentment and happiness and usually has a smile for anyone she makes eye contact with.

Kallie had her 2 year check-up at the beginning of the month as well. She’s doing great--she is now in the 50th percentile in both height and weight, so she’s very balanced physically. The Dr. commented that Kallie’s speech is way beyond that of most 2 year olds. That really doesn’t surprise me, as it seems like Kallie is talking more like a preschooler and less like a toddler these days. She has a great ability to express what she wants and is patient in repeating a new word until mommy and daddy finally get it. Kallie also reached a big milestone this month as she moved into a “Big Girl” bed. All things considered, she has done very well in adjusting to her night-time freedom. The biggest drawback is that the sun comes up early in the morning, which wakes the girls up--and Kallie will get out of bed and come into mommy and daddy’s room instead of lying in bed until we get her, (which is what she used to do). But, she loves her new bed and has been known to put herself down for rest time or a nap, (or at least pretend to), when she feels like it.

Ryan has been pretty busy recently with our move. He did a great job of getting everything out of storage and my parents’ house and into our new place. He’s such a great organizer that things went smoothly and were very low stress. Ryan and I spent several late nights at our apartment, before the official move took place, putting together furniture and preparing our kitchen for the move. I am really grateful for such a wonderful husband who is so willing to serve his family in any way necessary.

I have been busy organizing our spaces, decorating our home, and doing the day-to-day necessities. It has been wonderful to have my own place to decorate again--and I’m excited to continue making it a more comfortable and homey place as time goes on.

And, last but not least, Kallie and Whitney got a new cousin this past week! My brother, Tommy, and his wife, Kami, had a 9 lb. 1 oz. little girl that they named Xiri, (pronounced ZI-ree). Their family will be coming to stay with my parents for several weeks again this summer while Tommy does more graduate work, so we are looking forward to meeting our new little niece in a couple of weeks.

Well--that’s all of our fun June news. Hope you’re having a wonderful summer!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
