The Segeberg Scoop - May 2007
May has been a very busy month for us--and, as a result, has been very enjoyable!
To begin with, Ryan and I celebrated our third anniversary this past Tuesday. Knowing that it has been three years since we got married seems a little strange...on one hand, it feels like this is always how life has been. On the other hand, we keep thinking, "Didn’t we just get married?" I’m sure those are pretty normal feelings, no matter how long you’ve been married. We got to celebrate last night by going out to dinner in Salt Lake and then going dancing afterward. It was a lot of fun to spend time together doing something that we both really enjoy!
Earlier this month, we had another celebration--Kallie’s 2nd birthday. We had a "Cars" family party, since that’s Kallie’s favorite movie, and served pizza, Kallie’s favorite food. It’s rather funny that the symptoms of this age showed up right around her birthday. One of her favorite phrases right now is "Kallie do it." It’s fun to watch her attempt to take on new challenges and succeed at most of them, even if succeeding means being put in time out. Kallie also loves to help, ("Kallie help!"--another favorite phrase), and will do almost anything she is asked to do, including singing to Whitney. Summer has brought lots of opportunities to play in the water, all of which Kallie will gladly take advantage of. Anytime water is involved, she wants to be in the middle of it. She loves to swim, run in the sprinklers, or even just take a bath. She is such a cheerful child and we definitely enjoy her!
Whitney is as sweet as ever. This month, she started eating rice cereal. From the very first time she tried it, she loved it. Now, when she sees me start getting her cereal ready, her little arms and legs start flailing in every direction and her little mouth starts opening and closing in anticipation of the food. It cracks me up to see how excited she is about it! During the past few days, Whitney discovered how to blow raspberries. It is really cute to watch--except when she’s eating cereal. Even then, it’s still cute, but it requires more cleaning than her regular cute. Whitney now rolls onto her back like a pro and is working on rolling the other way. She is constantly enthralled with watching Kallie and loves to play with her big sister. Kallie is a great big sister, by the way, and gives lots of hugs and loves to her "sih-ter."
Just a few days after Kallie’s birthday, we got to go on a short family vacation to Bear Lake, which is about 3 hours northeast of us. We had a great time playing in the water at the beach, and Kallie went swimming and to the park with Ryan. I got a cold the day after we arrived, so I stayed at the condo with Whitney while they played. Kallie did pretty well with the long drives, although she did get a little bored toward the end of our trip home. At least we were only 30 minutes away by then, so it wasn’t too bad. It was a nice get-away for us!
Ryan’s big news for May is that he was selected from a lottery to run in the St. George marathon this October. I’m really proud of him and look forward to cheering him on during that marathon. Ryan is keeping busy doing the usual things that wonderful husbands and fathers do. He really is such a great husband and father!
I have kept busy this month with planning, packing, cleaning, etc. Although it has been a lot of work, it has also been a lot of fun for me. I also had to spend some time this month getting the girls on the same nap schedule. Now, instead of going from one to the other all day long, I have a 2-3 hour block of time in the afternoon to get things done without any "help". I have also started having "Learning Time" with Kallie. I choose a theme for the week and Mondays we go to the library and get books on that theme. The rest of the week, we make crafts or do activities that also relate to the theme. Kallie has loved it so far and I’m enjoying using my limited creativity to teach her fun things.
Well--that’s our news for May! I hope you are having a wonderful summer!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, & Whitney
