The Segeberg Scoop - April 2007
I can’t believe it’s already the end of April and time for yet another edition of the Segeberg Scoop. It seems like March was just a couple of days ago! This past month has been a busy one for us. With this most recent week being the busiest.
Wednesday night Ryan’s parents came into town for Ryan’s graduation. Thursday afternoon, we went to the Marriott Center for his Commencement Exercises, where Vice President Dick Cheney spoke. We had to be there around 1 p.m. to make sure we could get through security by the time we were supposed to be seated. That meant we sat in the Marriott Center’s uncomfortable chairs for almost 3 hours while we waited for the 4 p.m. program to begin. It was a nice program, and much more memorable than my own commencement 7 years ago. That evening, we had a small family celebration dinner for Ryan.
Friday morning, Ryan’s Convocation Exercises began at 8 a.m. It was nice to be done with it all early in the day, but it certainly was a trick getting us and our girls ready and out the door by 7:30. After a reception for BYU’s College of Computer Science, we took pictures, and then went to lunch with both sets of parents. That night, we went to my grandma’s cabin and had a wonderfully relaxing time before coming home Saturday evening. It was so fun to take the time to celebrate Ryan’s accomplishments. Believe it or not, we’re actually looking forward to celebrating again in another couple of years when he gets his Master’s degree.
Now, on to the usual updates. Whitney is now 4 1/2 mos. old, which is hard to believe. She has recently started grabbing things with more precision, so eating with her on our laps is becoming a thing of the past. She absolutely loves to lie on her farm mat and have "target practice," grabbing the toys hanging above her. Whitney has also started putting herself to sleep by sucking on her fingers. I love that I can put her in bed when she is wide awake, and within about 5 minutes, she’s totally asleep without a binky. Whitney is sleeping through the night most nights now. But, her little clock tells her to wake up around 5 a.m. every morning. No matter what time I feed her the night before, she is up early in the morning. Not real fun for mom, but not the worst case scenario, for sure!
Kallie still makes us laugh every day. Her latest new phrase is "I LUB oooh!," which in Kall-eese is "I love you!" Kallie got some sunglasses, sidewalk chalk, and a watering can for Easter and she BEGS to go outside every day and play with them. Unfortunately, the weather here has not been very cooperative since Easter and there haven’t been many opportunities for her to go outside because it’s been so cold. Kallie also had a few days during April where it seemed like she got a new owie every day. The most major was that she was scratched by my parents’ cat. She was bugging him and he reached up and clawed her face. Thank goodness he missed her eye! It healed up within about a week and you can’t even tell it happened now. It is the first time the cat has ever done something like that and Kallie hasn’t gotten as close since it happened. Kallie has also been enjoying having Whitney share a room with her now. There have been a few minor speed bumps in the process, but overall the transition has been very smooth. I think they love having each other nearby.
Other than that, Ryan and I are still just living life. I finally got my double stroller and have been able to go on a couple of walks since then. I love knowing that I have the freedom to take my kids for a walk now. Hopefully, the weather will warm up so we can get out more! Ryan has been plugging away at work. The company acquisition was completed this month, so he now works for Symantec. As promised, nothing job-wise has changed so far. Ryan has managed to catch up on the Harry Potter series and is looking forward to Book 7 in a few months.
That’s all of our news for April! We’re looking forward to Kallie’s birthday and our anniversary next month, time certainly flies! Hope you’re all well!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
