The Segeberg Scoop - February 2007

February has been an incredible month of craziness for the Segebergs!

You may remember from last month that we were putting our house on the market within days of sending out the Scoop. Well, we put it on forsalebyowner.com on a Monday night. Our sign arrived and went up on the front lawn that next Wednesday. By the time Thursday evening rolled around, we hadn’t received any inquiries and Ryan decided to list it on craigslist.com. Boy, was that the right thing to do! The next day, we received calls from several buyers interested in seeing our condo. By Saturday morning, we had about 6 interested parties lined up to see it. And, what a shock it was for us when the very first person made a full-price offer. We definitely weren’t expecting to have it go so quickly. But, since we felt our asking price is pushing the limit for our area, we accepted the offer right then. We were in total shock for at least the rest of the day!

Since that time, things have been crazy! Our lives have felt SO up in the air. Originally, we planned to move last weekend, anticipating a closing date of this Tuesday, but we found out today that our buyer is still working on getting her financing together. So, thank goodness, we’re not moving this weekend. Right now, it looks like we’ll be moving in about two weeks--although there aren’t any guarantees there at the moment.

We had hoped that we would know whether Ryan has been accepted into BYU’s graduate program before our condo sold so that we could make more definite plans for our future living arrangements. We would like to live in Wymount, (BYU’s Married Student On-Campus housing), while Ryan is in grad school, but even if he has been accepted, we can’t move in until May. And, that is IF there are open units available at that time. So, for the time being, we are moving into my parents’ basement. If Ryan hasn’t been accepted, we will move into another place closer to his office as soon as we know.

On to the rest of our news…Whitney is becoming such a little delight in our home! She has started smiling in the past few weeks and tries so hard to talk to us. She had her 2 month appointment at the beginning of the month. She is still in the 75th percentile for height and jumped up to the 75th percentile from the 25th percentile for weight. Her features are still very small, so she looks a little smaller than that. I had been concerned about her growth, since she was eating every 4-5 hours and was already sleeping through the night. But, her most recent stats have put my mind at ease. Whitney is such a mellow child and she hardly ever cries. I really couldn’t ask for a better baby!

Kallie is still as energetic as ever! She has a very active and curious mind and puts it to great use. Within the past week, Ryan and I have noticed that her vocabulary has suddenly grown and words she has only heard once will all of a sudden pop out. Recently, Kallie has started saying “No way!” every time she says no. It makes Ryan and I laugh! She loves the magnetic letters we put on the fridge a few weeks ago and already knows a few of them. And, on a good day, she can count to ten all by herself. Otherwise, it’s usually “yuhn, too, pree…tenen, ate, nine, tenen!” Kallie loves to point out colors of anything she sees and also shout out the names of familiar objects we come across. Right now, her greatest fascination is with cars. She got to see the movie “Cars” a few weeks ago--and loves to watch it. In fact, she begged to watch it on the way to and home from the family cabin this weekend. While at the cabin, Kallie got to go sledding for the very first time! She had a great time sliding down the slope with her daddy and requested “uh-GIN!” every time. She didn’t care how cold she was, sledding with daddy was way more fun than being warm and dry. We finally had to take her in to the cabin with her complaining the whole way in.

Ryan has actually had a few days of wondering what to do with himself since we accepted the offer to sell our home. All of the projects that needed doing were done--at least for a few days. The upstairs apartment caused some water damaged to the wood floor in our hallway last summer, so we had the entire floor replaced this past week. There were all sorts of hurdles in finally getting that taken care of, so we’re really glad it came together. When they took the washer/dryer out to put in the floor, for some reason, the cold water hook up started to leak. And, for some reason, our water heater started acting up within the past few days. So, it seems, as Ryan says, that we are stumbling to the finish line with this sale. Other than that, Ryan has been enjoying being home in the evenings and having nothing to do but spend time with his girls. Most nights, he ends up chasing Kallie around the apartment or wrestling with her on the floor. Kallie is a definite daddy’s girl--and I know that’s because Ryan is such a great daddy!

I’m just plugging away and enjoying being a mom! I’ve started packing a few boxes during the past few days and getting things organized for the move. It takes a lot of organization to figure out what can go into storage while we’re at my parents’ and what we’re going to need to take with us during that time. I’m looking forward to being more settled again--and I hope it doesn’t take too long to get to that point! This past week, I helped with a baby shower for a friend in my ward. I had a great time making the invitations weeks ago…and the shower went very well.

That’s all for the Segebergs this month. I hope next month’s Scoop will have news of Ryan’s grad school status! We love to hear from our friends, so please let us know how you’re doing!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, & Whitney
