The Segeberg Scoop - January 2007
February snuck up WAY too fast for me this year! I’m not sure what made January such a fleeting month. It could be that I have been struggling to find two brain cells to rub together since Whitney was born. :)
Since Whitney is the youngest, we’ll start with her this month. Our little “Nee-Nee,” (as Kallie calls her), is growing like crazy! At her 2 week appointment, where they hope a baby is back to their birth weight, Whitney exceeded hers by 1/2 lb. She is now 7 1/2 weeks old and starting to smile at us on occasion. She is such a good baby and very rarely cries. The past 2 nights, she has slept from 10 p.m. until about 5:30 a.m.--which is wonderful news for mommy! Maybe I’ll get a chance to regenerate those missing brain cells now.
Kallie is learning by leaps and bounds. I read somewhere the other day that a child her age can learn a new word every 90 minutes. It almost seems like this is true of Kallie because she’s constantly saying words that I didn’t know she knew. She now has all of her colors down and can count to 4 or 5 all by herself. Kallie is also growing into a wonderful big sister. She likes to share all of her treasures, (her binky, stuffed animals, and cell phone), with Whitney. I have to remind Kallie that toys don’t go on Whitney’s head, but to put them by her tummy instead. Kallie also loves to snuggle her sister and give her kisses every night before she goes to bed.
Ryan is enjoying being a BYU graduate, but that doesn’t mean he’s been taking any time off! Since he finished classes, he has managed to find many, many tasks to keep himself busy. Most of the projects he tackled were in preparation to put our condo on the market, which will happen this week. Another benefit of graduation is that Ryan is able to keep an easier work schedule. He was surprised to learn recently that his current employer, Altiris, will be purchased by Symantec, a large tech company. The acquisition will not be complete until sometime this summer, so for now, things haven’t changed much. It will be interesting to see how the entire experience unfolds over the next few months. Ryan also submitted his application for graduate school in the past few weeks. We’re really looking forward to hearing what the “verdict” is, so we can continue to make plans for our future.
As for me, I’m still doing the same old, same old. It is so wonderful to have more energy and health than I have since I got pregnant. I am really enjoying having 2 kids--although the fact that we have 2 is still a little strange to me. I keep telling people that having baby #2 is a lot easier than it was the first time around. Even though there is another little person to care for, the adjustment was so much smoother than with the first. Other than taking care of the kids and house, I’m still serving as the Compassionate Service Leader in my ward. There have been 5 babies born in the past 2 months, and we have several more coming--so that’s something I’ve been busy with as well.
Well--that’s our update for January. Before I start writing these Scoops, I always think we don’t have much to say. But, when I finish, I realize how much has really happened in the previous few weeks! I hope the beginning of this new year has been wonderful for all of you!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, & Whitney
