The Segeberg Scoop - December 2006
It’s time, yet again, for another Segeberg Scoop! Of course, the month of December has been very exciting for us.
As you all know, the most excitement in our home this month surrounds the birth of our second daughter. Whitney Catherine Segeberg was born on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 10:56 a.m. She weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz. and was 19 inches long. She looks a lot like Kallie and has a fuzz of darker hair. (http://www.utahportraits.com/hospital/index.php?action=view&BabyID=121406wcs) She is such a sweet little baby and we are all enjoying having her in our family.
Kallie is continuing to grow like a weed and talk up a storm. This month, Kallie has learned what the color “pink” is. She tries to point out yellow, green, and blue, but ends up confusing them more often than not. Kallie enjoys pointing out letters and numbers and having mommy and daddy tell her what they are. Now that Whitney is here, Ryan and I have had such a fun time comparing this tiny, helpless person to what her sister is now 19 months later. What an amazing transformation! Kallie is also adjusting very well to her new sister so far. Anytime Kallie comes home from being out with daddy, she has to check that her bee-bee is still here. For the most part, Kallie ignores Whitney—although when she realizes that the baby has a nose, eyes, a mouth, etc., she has to point them out and name them. She does a good job at being soft and loving her baby sister, though.
Ryan is DONE with school!! (Well, for a few months anyway!) His last day of classes was the day before Whitney was born. In one class, his professor decided to waive the final for students who had a grade of 92% or higher. Fortunately, Ryan has a 96% in the class, so he doesn’t have to take the final. His other class focused completely on group work throughout the semester. Ryan’s partner, a busy grad student, decided that Ryan had done the majority of work on their projects throughout the semester, so he decided to take over the remaining papers that needed to be completed. Thus, Ryan has found himself a lot less busy during the past few days. It couldn’t have happened at a better time for our family! Ryan has been such a great support and help to me since Whitney was born. I am so grateful for all he does for our family and that he is such a caring and involved husband and daddy. We are all grateful that his schedule will return to a “normal” work week now and that he’ll have a little more time to spend with all of his girls over the next few months.
As for me, I’m doing great! The c-section went very well…in fact, I think it was a lot better than the first one. One of my good friends from our ward works in the Operating Room of labor and delivery at the hospital where Whitney was born, so she attended the surgery. It was wonderful to have her there. She was able to tell me what was happening throughout the procedure and gave me reports on how Whitney was doing once she was delivered. Also, when Ryan went to the nursery with Whitney, my friend stayed in the OR with me while they finished up. My recovery so far has gone very well. I’ve been up and walking since the night Whitney was born. My pain now is minimal and I have so much more energy and motivation than I did when I was pregnant. I have to remind myself that I’ve just had major abdominal surgery and I have to take it easy.
As you can tell, we’re all doing great! We’d love to hear from you and hope your Christmas season is full of love!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, Kallie, and Whitney
