The Segeberg Scoop - September 2006

It’s hard to believe that another month has already come and gone. I keep thinking that I have too much to get done for time to fly by this quickly!

This month our major news is that we found out I have cholestasis again. I was really hoping that it wouldn’t happen, but I guess I’m just lucky or something. I started medication a little over a week ago. The good side of all of this is that we know that this little one will be here before Christmas—in fact, she’ll be here sometime around December 9. Although the thrill of going into labor would be fun and exciting, it’s nice to be able to plan on when it will happen. The other piece of good news is that I might not have to have another c-section. However, we won’t know for sure whether that will happen or not until right before she is born.

Kallie is becoming a little chatterbox. It is so fun to hear her learn to master a new word almost on a daily basis! One of the more recent additions to her vocabulary is the word, “NO!” I thought I had a few more months of a less opinionated child, but that’s not the case with Kallie. :) A few of her favorite words right now are “bup”—which means “book,” (she loves to look at books with mommy and daddy), and “ka-cut”—which means chocolate, (she’s definitely a girl!). One of Kallie’s favorite games right now is “talking” on her play phone. In fact, anything she gets her hands on has the possibility of turning into a phone. She usually says “hi” at the beginning, babbles in the middle, and then says “bye!” Kallie is just such a happy kid! It’s not unusual to hear her singing to herself as she plays with her toys or as she’s going to sleep at night. Of course, those sounds make both Ryan and I so happy!

Ryan is plugging away at the new semester. He’s working full-time and finishing up the last 2 classes required for his Bachelor’s degree. He starts his days EARLY, being at work by 6 a.m. And, he still manages to make time for both Kallie and I in the evenings. I really don’t know how he does it! He took the GRE a few weeks ago and did pretty well! I think we’re both looking forward to completing his grad school application in the coming months. We’ll be glad when January comes and he’ll have a few months to breathe before jumping in to the next few years of grad school.

I have been keeping myself busy at home in preparation for the arrival of our new little one. One of the side effects of pregnancy is “nesting”—where you want to clean and organize every square inch of your home. I didn’t experience this phenomenon when I was pregnant with Kallie, but I’m definitely enjoying nesting these days! This past month, Ryan and I rearranged our bedroom to make room for a bassinet. It’s much roomier now and we won’t feel as crowded. I’ve also been working on several projects for Kallie’s bedroom. I sewed a table cover, painted the letters of her name to hang on the wall, and just finished curtains this morning! Thanks to the nesting, I still have about 100 other projects on my list! I’m hoping my energy keeps up for a while so I can get most of them done before December.

That’s our news for the month! I hope you all had a wonderful September and are enjoying some cooler Fall weather in your neck of the woods!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, and Kallie
