The Segeberg Scoop - March 2006

March has been a great month for us! In a manner of speaking, it “came in like a lion” with a lot of good changes, (and definite blessings). Things are starting to calm down a little now, and we’re looking forward to the month “going out like a lamb.”

To begin with, Ryan was offered a full-time position with the company he was interning for. The greatest part is that it’s on the same team, with the same supervisor, doing the same work he had been doing—just for more hours each week. We were quite surprised when they made a formal offer on the first Friday of the month and he started the next Monday! It all came together much faster than we anticipated. As you may guess, Ryan has had a great deal less free time than before he started working full-time. He still continues to amaze me with his ability to get everything done in a week! In addition to everything else, Ryan is training for the Salt Lake City marathon, which he will run at the beginning of June. He’s reaching the point in the semester that I call “the calm before the storm,” meaning that projects, tests, and homework starts to taper off a bit in preparation for finals, which start one month from today. We can’t believe the semester has passed so quickly and are looking forward to a short break before he starts Spring Term at the beginning of May.

Kallie continues to be her cute happy self and is learning to communicate better every day! During the past week, we realized that she has started saying “kitty” and she has started signing “milk” when she is hungry, regardless of what she wants to eat. We can’t get enough of watching her discover and learn new things, almost on a daily basis. Within the past month, Kallie has decided that she LOVES her daddy and wants to play with him and babble to him every chance she gets. Every time he walks in the room, she says, “daddy!” (or doggie…), and waves at him. I think she’s realizing more and more that mommy is business and daddy is playtime—and she really enjoys her playtime. Kallie is also becoming more daring in her ability to stand alone. The other day, she was climbing on her daddy and took both hands off at the same time. She stood for about 5 seconds and, as soon as she realized what she was doing, quickly sat down. She hasn’t done it since!

When Ryan started full-time, we both realized that with his longer hours, I would be at home for longer hours with no transportation. Since I have errands to run on a regular basis, Ryan and I decided that it would be a good idea to buy another car. Consequently, this weekend, we became the owners of a 2003 Honda Pilot! I am SO thrilled to have some freedom again and be able to actually go somewhere when I’m tired of being in the house.

This month, I have kept myself fairly busy with various projects. As soon as we found out about Ryan’s job, we rented a storage unit and moved everything we had been storing in Kallie’s room into the unit. So, several days at the beginning of the month were filled with reorganization and spring cleaning. It has been wonderful to have additional space in our home, as we were really overcrowded! During the past couple of weeks, I have been working on sewing an Easter dress for Kallie. It’s coming together slowly, but surely, and I hope it will be done in time for Easter. For the time being, I’m just really enjoying using my creative talents and improving my sewing skills!

I hope March has been good to all of you and, once again, I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, and Kallie
