The Segeberg Scoop - January 2006
I can’t believe it’s already time for another Scoop! But, here we are, almost the end of January. Ryan and I are, yet again, nostalgic during this month—because two years ago on January 24, we became “officially” engaged. What a fun opportunity to look back on the memories.
January has been a great month for us. Ryan started classes at the beginning of the month and has been plugging away ever since. This semester seems to be less stressful than other semesters so far—and we’ll see if that trend continues. Within the next month or so, Ryan is planning to take the GRE, research grad schools, and start pulling things together for those applications. Although we won’t know until the end of the year, (or this time next year), it’s fun to think about the possibilities of where we will end up.
Kallie’s latest accomplishment is pulling herself up on any and all furniture she encounters. If the item is too high for her comfort level, she only pulls up to her knees. But, if it’s a little lower, she pulls herself up to standing. The other day, she stood up behind her little wagon and pushed it all the way across the room. It was so cute to watch her teeny-tiny legs get going!
Our cute little dolly is definitely on her way to becoming a little chatterbox. She babbles and squeals all the time! A couple of weeks ago, after spending a couple of days around a dog, (and after hearing everyone say, “doggie” for the entire time), Kallie suddenly blurted out “dah-GEE-gee” when the dog licked her. Whether she knew what she was doing or not, we’re still not sure. But, she does say “dah-gee” all the time now.
Also, Kallie is starting to pick up on the baby signs we have been teaching her. Although she hasn’t really made an obvious sign yet, it’s a lot of fun to watch her try to do the same thing that our hands are doing. Last night, Ryan and I thought she made the sign for milk, but she hasn’t done the motion again, so we’re still wondering about that one as well.
I have been having fun playing my piano! I decided that I wanted to play through the Children’s Songbook and then through the LDS hymn book to help me improve my languishing piano skills. I finished the Children’s Songbook within 2 weeks and just started on the other one. It will be fun to know that I’ve played every single song in both books! (Although I won’t be able to say that I played them well…) I’ve also been having fun figuring out my sewing machine. Last week, I made a couple of “silky blankies” for Kallie to cuddle with. I’m looking forward to moving on to bigger projects with my machine.
We have truly had a great month and are looking forward to what February holds for us!
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, and Kallie
