The Segeberg Scoop - November 2005
I love November! This month is special because it holds so many wonderful memories for me. I began my mission at the beginning of November four years ago—and what an amazing and wonderful experience that was. Also, on the 21st, Ryan and I celebrated the 2 year anniversary of our first date. It’s so fun to look back over that short amount of time and see how many wonderful things have happened in our lives since that time.
Kallie has had quite an eventful month. Early in the month, she discovered that she could roll across the floor to get whatever she wanted to play with. One of her favorite things was to roll over to the couch to touch and feel the fabric. Within the past week or so, she has started to pull up on all fours and rock back and forth and then launch herself a few inches forward. I don’t think it will be too long before she’s crawling. She just needs to figure out that her arms have to move with her legs and she’ll be all over the place! (Uh-oh!) Kallie also started sitting up this month. She sits for a minute or two and then falls over so she can scoot around to get what she wants. Within the past couple of weeks, Kallie has also started to become much more social. She used to cry when anyone other than mom and dad was holding her. But, she has had a couple of successful playtimes with Grandma and Grandpa Pettit recently. And, she’s even spent some quality minutes with our friends at Church. Finally, we’re discovering that there aren’t many foods Kallie doesn’t like. When we started feeding her fruits and vegetables, we got out the video camera to record her funny faces. But, our footage is very boring because she has loved everything we’ve tried to feed her. It’s just so fun for us to watch her continue to discover the world around her.
As for Ryan and I, this month has been much less eventful than it was for Kallie. Ryan continues to chip away at the piles of assignments as the semester draws to a close. With only a little less than 3 weeks to go until he’s finished, he can see the light at the end of the tunnel. He’s looking forward to a lot less homework during the break and I’m looking forward to spending a bit more time with him before the next crazy semester hits.
This past week, we enjoyed going up to Draper to spend Thanksgiving with my family, and aunts, uncles, and cousins. I had a proud moment that day, as I made my first “scratch” pie. Although I’ve cooked and baked quite a bit in my life, I hadn’t ever attempted a truly homemade pie—and I’d heard they were somewhat difficult. So, I made a banana cream pie that could have rivaled any of Marie Callendar’s. And, although it wasn’t as easy as using a store-bought crust and pudding mix, it wasn’t nearly as tough, (or as time consuming), as I thought it would be. So now, I’m looking forward to attempting more pies in the future!
Well, that’s all for now! I hope your December is both magical and spiritual as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Love,
Ryan, Amanda, and Kallie
