The Segeberg Scoop - August 2005

August has come…and almost gone, so it’s time for another Segeberg Scoop!

To start the month off, Kallie and I traveled to Arizona with my parents to see my brother’s family. It was definitely an adventure traveling with a three-month old! One thing I’ve learned about Kallie in the past few months is that she is VERY aware of her surroundings. If she is not with familiar people, (i.e. mom or dad), in a familiar place, (read “at home”), she lets us know that she does not like what’s going on. Although she was sleeping in her own bed—and I was constantly with her, she had a rough couple of days getting used to the new situation.

It was great to see my brother’s little family before they headed off to Texas. Little Jack was so snuggly…it was hard for me to believe that Kallie was that small only a few months ago. They grow much too fast! It was also fun to play with my niece, Emily, and introduce her to Kallie. Between the family activities and Kallie’s antics, I didn’t get the chance to visit as much as I would have liked. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to see everyone while I was there.

The day before we left Arizona, which was the day after Kallie turned 3 months, she decided that it was time to hold her head up and start rolling over. She’s been briefly lifting her head for several weeks, but all of a sudden, she started pushing up on her hands and looking around for several minutes at a time. (We’ve posted several new pictures of her doing her new trick on our website.) The rolling over followed almost immediately, as she wasn’t used to her heavy head and would “flop” over while trying to keep her balance. She’s still working on the back to front roll… These past few days, she has improved a lot in her hand eye coordination and is starting to actually touch what she’s trying to grab. It will be fun to see what the next month brings!

This past week, Ryan went on the annual Segeberg Father and Son camping trip with his dad, brothers, and nephews. They had a great time boating, fishing, and just hanging out with each other. Although I’m definitely jealous that they all get to go camping every year, I’m really glad that Ryan gets to spend that time with the guys in his family. It’s a great opportunity for some male bonding that wouldn’t otherwise happen. Ryan and I laughed when he got home that we BOTH got to go on vacation this summer…we just didn’t get to go together! (We decided that separate vacations are NOT the way to go.) :)

While Ryan was gone, Kallie and I stayed with my parents in Orem. It was great because I was finally able to finish the curtains for our family room. I bought the fabric while I was pregnant, thinking I’d have them done in a weekend. I think I got as far as cutting out the pattern pieces I’d be using before the pregnancy exhaustion set in. I’m glad they’re done and I love looking at my curtains now.

That’s all for August! I hope everyone is doing well and we look forward to hearing about your lives!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, and Kallie
