The Segeberg Scoop - May 2005

I realize I'm totally late on this Scoop. In fact, I'm so late that I wasn't going to send one. But, then I decided that May marked too many important things, so I'm sending one out anyway. This just means that June's Scoop will be shorter!

First things first...as of last Tuesday, Kallie is a month old! She is growing like a little weed. Within the past week, she started what I call her "awkward phase." :) She's got baby acne all over her little face and peeling skin on her head. (Everywhere else has already peeled. Her head is the only thing left!) We were able to bless her when she was 2 weeks old. Watching Ryan take her in his arms and give her a blessing was such a neat experience for me. Kallie is such a sweet baby. She hardly ever cries...and is almost sleeping through the night already. Ryan and I love having her in our home. She makes us smile constantly and we love being parents! (BTW--we hope to have a few new pictures on our website within a couple of days.)

I've learned a few things in the past month since she was born. First thing is that "Dukes of Hazzard" is on at midnight on channel 23, Lizzie McGuire is the ONLY thing on at 2 a.m., and there isn't ANYTHING on, (besides infomercials), between 3-5 a.m. One thing that has really been obvious to me in the past month is that there's a definite difference between pregnant and non-pregnant Amanda. I didn't realize how tired and unmotivated I was until my energy and motivation returned about three weeks ago! I've also learned that there is a transitional period between working full-time and being a stay-at-home mom. I'm still figuring out how to organize my time here at home. Another thing I've learned, (and this probably has something to do with the whole organizing my time thing), is that I can sit for hours and just hold my baby. I love watching her look around and discover the world when she's awake--and I love watching her angelic face while she sleeps. I wouldn't trade this opportunity for the world!

Moving on...May 22 marked our one year anniversary. This past year has truly been wonderful. I have come to realize that I married the most wonderful man on the face of the planet. He is so patient with me as I work on on improving myself. I knew I was getting a good one when we got married, but in this past year, I've started to realize I got someone a hundred times better than I originally thought.

May also marked Ryan's 3-year and my 2-year "Home from Mission" anniversaries. It's hard to believe that much time has passed. The Baltics, my experiences as a missionary, and all of my mission buddies are still very close to my heart. I don't think that will ever change.

On the more boring side of things...Ryan has started to work for our HOA as the "Landscape Guy." He takes care of all of the landscaping on our property. He's enjoying it so far, as it gives him something to do when he gets home from work. It will continue to keep him very busy when school starts up in about a week and a half. I have also started working for the HOA, in the capacity of Secretary/Treasurer. It's a great opportunity because I can do everything at home and bring in a little bit of money.

Well--that's all for this edition. I hope you're all having a wonderful summer so far. It's still snowing in the mountains and chilly in the valleys here. I can't wait until it warms up a bit! If you happen to be in town this summer, please let us know. We'd love to see you!

Love,

Ryan, Amanda, and Kallie
