The Segeberg Scoop - March 2005
I can’t believe it’s already time for another Scoop! March has been just as busy as February, but MUCH less taxing on us. Thank goodness! I don’t think I could have handled another February. (Be careful, this one’s long…)
First and foremost, shortly after the last Segeberg Scoop, we moved back into our condo. Just being home and back in our own routine made such a difference in my emotional stress level. And, the bathroom looks GREAT! We’re still finishing a few things up—but as soon as those are completed, we’ll post the new pictures on our website. Since Ryan is so busy with school right now, those probably won’t be posted until the next Scoop comes out in April.
Many of you have asked further questions about my condition. Almost a month ago, I met with the Dr. to further discuss what was going on. Because my bile salts were elevated, they know that I have cholestasis. Unless things get a lot worse in the next 6 weeks or so, they aren’t going to test me again. Completely unrelated to cholestasis, we also discovered that I have gallstones. (At first, I thought there was a connection between the two—but there isn’t.) I’ve got a lot more than Ryan had, but haven’t ever had any noticeable attacks. The Dr. doesn’t expect any difficulties with my gall bladder before the baby comes. However, sometime after she’s here, I may end up having it taken out. We’ll probably have to see how things progress at that point. So, even with all of this going on, I feel great. Just like every other 3rd trimester mommy, I’m tired—but I don’t feel any ill effects from the medical issues going on. (Well, other than itching…) And, they still plan to induce me at 37 weeks. I can’t believe we’ll have our little one here in 6-7 weeks!
We’ve had a couple of visitors this past month! Bro. and Sis. Rigby, from my mission, stopped by for a few minutes last week. There was a sort of “contest” among the 4 sisters who were in Tallinn when the Rigbys arrived. While we were still Sisters, Sis. Rigby told us that she would knit a baby blanket for the first one of us to have a baby. Well, two years after the deal was made, it just so happens that I am the first of the four. So, they dropped off the BEAUTIFUL blanket when they stopped by. It’s a treasure to me.
Also, this past weekend, my college roommate, Rachel, was in town. We got to spend some time together on Saturday night and a bit on Sunday. It was so fun to see her. We had a great time chatting about current life and our memories.
Work has kept me pretty busy with a university conference that I was partially in charge of. The conference was last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. So, it’s finally over—and I feel like I can breathe again. Plus, I’ve only got 5 weeks to go until I’m done with KBYU. I’m counting down…
By the time Saturday rolled around, I was pretty tired. However, my Grandpa Tom, (dad’s dad), passed away recently and his funeral was on Saturday. Most of us, while we were sad, felt that his passing was a good thing since he was in the late stages of Alzheimers. As my younger brother said, “Grandpa’s body is no longer holding back his mind.” This weekend, I came to better understand that death is definitely a part of our progression. Just as we take the “next step,” (i.e. graduation, marriage, etc.), in our lives, death is another step on our path. The funeral was very sweet and a wonderful time to celebrate the incredible life of an incredible man.
Well—I think that’s all for my novel this month. I guess I had a lot to write. Hope you are all doing well! Have a great month.
Love,
Amanda, Ryan, and the Segebug
