The Segeberg Scoop - February 2005
I realize that it's not exactly February anymore, but I've been waiting on a few things so I could include them before next month's Scoop. I can definitely say that February has been an interesting month for Ryan and I. It started out relatively calm and quickly turned into craziness!
To begin with, Heath and Cami, Ryan's brother and sister-in-law, came down over President's Day weekend. We were looking forward to spending time with them...and glad that Heath volunteered to help Ryan remodel (or, for those of you who have lived in the Baltics, REMONT!), the bathroom.
I feel like I should break into the Gilligan's Island theme here... It started out as a 3-day job, but the going started getting rough, and if not for the spirits of the fearless crew, the bathroom would be lost. Our bathroom was stripped down to the studs and just a shell of a room at one point. Heath and Ryan got the bathtub in and drywall up before Heath and Cami had to leave, and I'm very glad they got that done. Since then, Ryan's been putting in a lot of time (and really late nights) on the weekends.
We've been surviving at my parents' house for the past two weeks or so. I feel really blessed that they live so close and that we've been able to maintain a semblance of normal life! The bathroom will, hopefully, be liveable again by Saturday evening and we can finally return home. It's looking really great so far, and I'm so proud of my handy husband! (And grateful for my handy brother-in-law.)
The other big thing that's been going on lately is with my pregnancy. (No pun intended.) About two weeks ago, I started getting REALLY itchy. Every part of me, especially my hands and feet, was constantly begging to be scratched. I thought it was kind of strange and mentioned it to my midwife. Last Friday, they ran some blood tests on me, and today we found out that I have a special circumstance called intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, moving in to cholecystitis. This means that my liver and gall bladder aren't functioning properly--so bile is spilling over into my bloodstream. Because of this, I am now classified as a high risk pregnancy.
The Dr. who oversees my midwives (and handles high-risk pregnancies) is putting me on two medications...one for the itching and one for the bile issues. I'm having an ultrasound of my gall bladder hopefully on Thursday and will be going in twice a week from here on out for "non-stress tests" to make sure the baby is OK. Right now, as a result of the circumstance, the plan is that I will be induced during my 37th week. That will put the delivery at the end of April/beginning of May. So, in trying to look on the bright side of things, I won't have to face the possibility of being overdue and I'll never know what it really feels like to be 9 months pregnant!
So, those are the events of February. I really wish that I didn't have as much to write this month! Seriously, though, we could really use your prayers at this point. Any you'd like to send our way would be greatly appreciated.
I hope your February was better than ours! :) We hope that you all have a wonderful March, too! Please let us know how you're doing...we'd love to hear from you.
Love,
Amanda and Ryan and the Segebug
