The Segeberg Scoop - January 2005

This month has been such a busy one for us! It has flown by so quickly that I’m starting to wonder what actually happened to January?

Of course, our baby news is first and foremost. We had our ultrasound the first Friday in January. I was completely relieved to see that the baby had both arms and both legs, its little heart was still pumping beautifully, and everything measured within one day of the May 27 due date. The best part of the experience was when we found out we are having a little girl. (For all of Mom’s Thoughts on the ultrasound, you can check out our website at www.segebergs.org/ryan/segebug.) Last night was a fun milestone because Ryan was able to feel her kick for the first time!

Speaking of Ryan, he has been recovering well since having his gallbladder out on Jan. 13. He slept most of the first day…and the second day, it was almost all I could do to convince him to sit down and relax for a while! He made it through Sacrament Meeting the following Sunday, but seemed a little frustrated by the fact that he was too tired to make it through the rest of church. I tried to talk him out of going running that next Wednesday…and I wish I had been able to because he didn’t feel well by the end of the day. He commented to me this past Sunday that he thought he was fine that first week, but was surprised because he feels so much better now. So, like I said last month—it has been like trying to keep the Energizer bunny down for a few days. I’m just glad he’s feeling better and is back to his previous activity level.

OK—now, please allow me to indulge by bragging about Ryan for a few sentences! Last semester, he was the model husband for a pregnant wife. (Not that he isn’t now…) Besides going to school full-time and working part-time, he took care of all of the cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping that I was too tired and sick to take care of. Along with all of this, he managed to take care of all of his other random responsibilities and still plan time to spend with his sick wife. AND—in my opinion, this is the clincher—he made the Dean’s List of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. I was so proud of him! I feel like such a lucky girl to have such a great guy!

This next little bit may not seem very eventful to anyone but me, but I wanted to share anyway. This past Saturday evening was the first time since…well, I can’t remember when…that Ryan and I were able to just spend a quiet (and healthy) evening at home together. It was so fun to just sit on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy each other’s company without having to worry about going somewhere. I actually hope we get some more of those in the future!

Over all, things are still going great for us. We’re looking forward to President’s Day weekend in February, as that’s the weekend we get to re-do our bathroom. (Actually, Ryan and his friend will be taking care of most of the re-doing. I’ll be providing mainly encouragement and opinions.) We’ve been thinking about what to do in there since we bought the condo a year ago. It will be so nice to finally have it done.

We hope the New Year has been good to you so far. We certainly feel blessed and are looking forward to the coming events! Please keep in touch!

Love,

Amanda and Ryan
