The Segeberg Scoop - December 2004
We’ve finally reached December! Since we didn’t send out Christmas cards this year, this Scoop will be a “Year in Review” for us.
January: We started off the year with a bang! Ryan and I became engaged on Jan. 24. Little did we know what major changes would come this year as a result of our decision.
February: During President’s Day weekend, we had a great time traveling down to visit friends and family in Arizona. As soon as we returned to Utah, we began the process of purchasing our condo. We closed the purchase on the last day of February.
March: After much deliberation, Ryan and I decided to purchase a car this month. So far, it’s been a great little car for us. (Although we have discovered a few quirks since that time!)
April: Ryan finished the semester at the end of April and the sound of wedding bells rang louder in our ears.
May: Ryan and I were married in the Mt. Timpanogos temple on May 22. It’s the best thing that’s happened to us all year! We finished off the month with a trip to Seattle and I got to meet the rest of the Segeberg clan. This was a nice break from the long hours of condo-fixing we put in before the wedding.
June: This month was quite uneventful for our family. We spent the entire month settling into our home.
July: Our car was broken into over the Independence Day holiday weekend. Although it was a pain to go through the insurance process, it turned out to be a great blessing in the end.
August: This month, we embarked on our first family camping trip. Between the too-small sleeping quarters, mouse in the glove compartment, and finding the end of a random road, it was quite an adventure.
September: The second best event of the year happened this month! We found out we were expecting the Segebug, (the name my brothers chose for the baby for now).
October: October was the month of mission memories! We started of the month with Ryan's reunion and finished up by having a visit from some good friends from my mission.
November: We started to realize the joy of becoming parents as we heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time. What an amazing event! November also began the holiday season with a white Thanksgiving at the family cabin.
December: This month gets a little more detail than the others, since this IS the December Scoop. December didn't really begin for us until Ryan finished his classes about two weeks into the month. Despite working part-time, taking care of all the household chores, and taking care of a sick wife, he managed to get A's and one B in his classes. I don't know how he manages it all, but I could brag about him for hours!
Within a week after he finished, we were on our way to Seattle for Christmas. The Christmas celebrations were great fun. The best part was watching the excitement of the younger kids. We got to spend some time with each of the family members that live in the area. I particularly enjoyed the trip because I was able to get to know that side of the family a lot better. We really wish we had been able to stay longer and spend more time with everyone!
The next few weeks will be very eventful for us. Next Friday, I reach the half-way point in my pregnancy and we get to find out what we're having! If you don't want to wait until the end of the month to find out, be sure to check our website at www.segebergs.org/ryan. We should have it posted within a few days of the ultrasound. The week after that, Ryan is having his gallbladder removed. It's considered an outpatient surgery, so he'll get to recover in the comfort of our home. Keeping him down long enough to recover will be like telling the Energizer bunny to sit still for 3 days.
We hope this past year has been one of happiness for you...and we wish you the same for the coming year! Please keep in touch and let us know how life is in your neck of the woods.
Love,
Amanda and Ryan
