The Segeberg Scoop - November 2004
Well—it’s time for the next edition of the Segeberg Scoop! Ryan and I had a wonderful weekend, (minus the BYU football outcome), in celebrating our 6 month-iversary. Saturday morning, we went out to breakfast together and he brought some beautiful stargazer lilies home for me later that day. This past weekend also marked the one year anniversary of our dating relationship. How fun to think about the things that were happening exactly a year ago in our lives—and where those things have taken us since then!
Our first bit of news is, of course, our baby. About two weeks ago, we were able to listen to the heartbeat. That was an incredible experience. It’s such a neat feeling to know that there’s really a little life growing inside me. Honestly, though, my favorite part of the whole thing was seeing the look on Ryan’s face after we heard it. Although my simple description can’t do it justice, he looked like he had just been privileged to hear the coolest sound known to mankind. I won’t ever forget that look! The heartbeat was about 180. According to an old wives tale, that means we’re having a girl. But, I’ve thought it would be a boy since we found out. We should find out for sure early-mid January.
In the last Scoop, I mentioned that I hadn’t been too sick yet. I think I spoke too soon. Within a few days, my body decided to make me really feel pregnant. The past four weeks have been pretty tough. Ryan has still been absolutely amazing about getting everything done so I can go to bed early or even just rest when I get home from work. The miraculous part of it all is that he still hasn’t complained about it! I don’t know how he manages to take care of everything in the house, work part-time, and still get good grades! I’m just looking forward to that fabled second trimester burst of energy and lack of nausea that should be happening any day now. I’d really like to feel like a wife again.
This past Sunday, we had a rather comical experience. While I was at some Relief Society meetings, Ryan was making a Wacky Cake to take to my parents’ house that night for dinner. When he came to pick me up from the Church, he mentioned that he’d made a little mistake in preparing the cake. As he was getting ready to add the wet things to the dry mixture, he realized he had somehow missed adding the sugar. He remembered adding 2 cups of cocoa, but couldn’t remember adding 2 cups of sugar. (At this point, I was already laughing!) The recipe actually calls for 6 tablespoons of cocoa, so Ryan had added about 4 times as much as was called for! So, after calling his mom, he decided to multiply all of the dry ingredients by four and save the three extra batches for later. I came home to our biggest bowl full of the dry mix. We both had a good laugh over the whole situation. Needless to say, if anyone’s in town and would like to stop by for some Wacky Cake, we’ve got more than enough to share! (P.S.--Ryan did give me permission to share that story.)
We’re looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving this week. We’ll be heading up to the family cabin to celebrate with all of the aunts, uncles, and cousins that the place can hold. It should be a nice break. We’re also greatly anticipating our trip to Seattle for Christmas. We’re can’t wait to spend some time with the Segeberg relatives! Hope you are all well! Please keep in touch…
Love,
Amanda (and Ryan)
