The Segeberg Scoop - October 2004
This past month, I have felt a lot like I did on my mission: the days are like weeks and the weeks are like days. Regardless, it’s been a good month.
To begin with, probably one of the most exciting things that happened this past month actually happened right after I sent the last Segeberg Scoop. Ryan and I found out that we’re expecting a baby! The official due date is May 27, so I’ll be 10 weeks along this Friday. We’re excited and, of course, a little nervous about this new challenge. It’s a whole new experience and neither one of us really knows what to expect from now on. I do, however, feel extremely blessed. First of all, I’m going to be able to be a stay-at-home mom. For those of you who have known me for a while, you know that this is my chosen profession! I’m thrilled to finally have that opportunity. Secondly, I feel blessed that I haven’t been violently sick. I have been extremely tired and my nausea is usually MUCH worse in the evenings. But, compared to what it could be, I know I don’t have it bad at all. Ryan has been incredibly wonderful through all of this! He has taken care of cleaning the house, making sure the laundry gets done, and fixing dinner for the past month or so. He even tickles my back _every_ time I ask—and he’s never complained ONCE about doing any of this! I have been really blessed to have such a great, understanding husband. The next milestone we're looking forward to is hearing the baby’s heartbeat in a couple of weeks.
Another piece of fun news from October is that we bought a couch! Our other couches were ghetto, for lack of a better word. There was a hole under the cushions of one of them and extremely wobbly legs on the other. People would either sink into the depths or get seasick just sitting in our family room! We had been looking for a microfiber couch for quite a while—and finally found one on sale. We’re SO glad to finally have a solid, sturdy, comfortable sitting place!
This past Sunday, Ryan received a new church calling. He’s now one of the ward librarians. I think this is a perfect calling for him! I told him he’s not allowed to ditch Sunday School because he’s organizing and reorganizing the library. I think he’ll have a great time in this calling, though. (And, I’m excited about all of the books and videos that he’s going to be bringing home.)
This month has also been quite the month for missionary reunions! Right before conference, Ryan and I attended his mission reunion and I was able to meet his mission president and elders he served with. It was fun to get to know that part of his life a little better. That same weekend, Heidi Jensen, one of my former companions, stayed with us for a night. It was fun to have her there and be able to catch up with her. Last night, Elder and Sister Rigby, the senior couple I served with in Tallinn, came by to visit. They've been home about two weeks and happened to be travelling through. It was so wonderful to see them and get to talk about the mission all over again! Another former companion of mine, Kirty (Lucas) Zimmerman, came over as well. We got to hear updates about all of "our" people from Tallinn. I loved having them all here!
Well—that’s it for the October news. I hope everyone is well and happy! We would love to hear from you. And, please let us know if you’ll be in the area. We love to have visitors, too! :)
Love,
Amanda (and Ryan)
