The Segeberg Scoop - September 2004
Well, another month has gone by. Last night, a couple of friends were at our house and they asked how long we'd been married. When we told them it had only been four months, they commented that it seemed a lot longer than that. While it does seem like the time has passed quickly, we realize it has only been a short time!
I think the biggest change that happened for us in September was that Ryan started the new semester. Not a huge change, since he was in classes while we were engaged and took one class during summer term. However, for some reason, it feels totally different now. It drives me crazy to be done with work at the end of the day and not have anyone to play with! :) Ryan's good about making a little time each evening to spend together, though--and, he still does the dishes every night! (I think he's pretty amazing!)
Life has suddenly become a lot busier for me as well. About the time that school started, one of the sisters in my ward started a "Health and Wellness Club." We meet one night a week and discuss ways to be healthier and motivate each other. Going to my little "club" is great because Ryan's has time for homework--and I'm not sitting around waiting for him to finish. I also started attending a water aerobics class three times a week. It's great because the class is on campus, so I just walk over to the P.E. building after work. Elizabeth and Joy, a friend from work, are in the class with me--and we just have a great time! I was also recently called as the Education Counselor in our ward's Relief Society Presidency. So far, I've had the opportunity to visit the new sisters in the ward and have really enjoyed getting to know them better.
This past weekend, Ryan and I decided to go camping. Friday after work, (and classes), we packed up our little Accord and drove about 40 minutes south of Provo to Santaquin Canyon. It's a narrow canyon that is incredibly unimpressive and unattractive at the mouth. However, as we drove further in, it became VERY beautiful. We also saw three wild turkeys crossing the road as we drove in. That was pretty cool because I've never seen them in nature before. We camped at an organized campground where only about 3 other spots were camped in. We used Ryan's tent, which he remembered being a LOT bigger last time he used it. :) Although camping is a lot of work, we had a very relaxing evening. In the morning, we decided to pack up and follow the dirt road further into the canyon to see where it went. (We eventually hit a paved road that took us down into Payson.) At one point, I looked in the glove compartment and realized that some protein bars Ryan kept in there were shredded open and had been gnawed on. Somehow, during the time our car was parked in the campground, a little mouse had climbed inside and sampled the bars. We knew it wasn't still in the car, because we hadn't seen or heard it since we'd been driving. The whole thing was a big mystery to us!
A lot of people have been wondering about the state of Ryan's gall bladder...so here's the info on that. A couple of weeks ago, he underwent a "hydrascan," which was supposed to tell the Dr. how well (and IF) Ryan's gall bladder was working. After receiving the results, the Dr. referred Ryan to a surgeon. The surgeon told us that the hydrascan had never actually completed because Ryan's gall bladder didn't fill fast enough. Of course, they recommended removal of his gall bladder. We just found out about all of this yesterday, so Ryan and I are in the process of deciding when the surgery will take place. We figure we'd rather have a planned situation than an emergency later on.
Well--that's about all for this month. I hope you are all well and happy! Please write when you get a chance!
Love,
Amanda
